Willy Kambwala says his first brush with Cristiano Ronaldo at Manchester United turned heated before a post-session sauna chat smoothed things over.
"My first contact with Cristiano wasn’t friendly," Kambwala told Orange Sport. "That bothered him a bit. I pushed him slightly and he got angry. He went to speak to the coach, and I didn’t like that either."
"After training, we met in the sauna. I got up to leave and he asked me to stay. We talked as if nothing had happened. It was amazing. He told me he admired my intensity and aggression."
Ronaldo has voiced wider concerns about modern prospects. "I don't mean that they don't respect the more experienced players or the older players, but they live in a different era," he said on Talk TV. "I can see my kid [who is] 12 years old. The mentality is not the same, they are not suffering."
Since a £9.6 million move to Villarreal in 2024, Kambwala’s progress has been checked by fitness problems. A hamstring injury in August of last year has kept him out this term, though he returned to training in January and is working towards full fitness.
