Win over Ponte Preta sees Corinthians end mini hoodoo at Neo Química Arena

On the afternoon of this Sunday (11), Corinthians took the field for the first time in the 2026 season! Playing at Neo Química Arena, the People’s Team hosted Ponte Preta for the first round of the Campeonato Paulista, and even missing key players from the starting lineup, controlled the game and won 3-0. The goals were scored by Gustavo Henrique, André Luiz, and André Ramalho, all in the second half.

Besides allowing the People’s Team to start the state tournament in the best possible way, earning their first three points in the standings, the victory broke a mini-drought that had persisted since the end of the 2025 season. After all, the team had gone four games without a win in Itaquera, in matches played for the Campeonato Brasileiro and Copa do Brasil.

This streak began with a 2-2 draw against Botafogo on November 30th in the Brasileirão, followed by another draw, this time 1-1, against Juventude on December 7th in the same competition. Next, the team failed to beat two opponents in the final stretch of the Copa do Brasil, losing 2-1 to Cruzeiro in the semifinal on December 14th and drawing 0-0 with Vasco in the final, three days later.

It was the longest winless run for Corinthians in Itaquera since the five games without a victory between July and August 2024, when the team drew four times and lost once in matches for the Brasileirão, Copa do Brasil, and Sudamericana. This Sunday’s win also marked the most impressive home scoreline for the Alvinegro since October, when they beat Mirassol 3-0 in the national tournament.
