With Luciano, São Paulo return to training after Sul-Americana win

On Thursday, the São Paulo squad returned to training after a 1-0 win over Boston River in Uruguay last Tuesday. Now, Tricolor’s focus is on the clash against Vitória in the 11th round of the Brazilian Championship, set for next Saturday at 4:30 p.m. (Brasília time) at Barradão.

Forward Luciano, who did not travel to Uruguay due to tightness in his right calf, trained normally with the squad.

The training session

The players who logged more minutes in the last match went out onto the pitch and performed controlled-load activities. Defensive midfielder Damián Bobadilla, who scored the winning goal against Boston, stayed indoors to treat a wound on his right leg, suffered in the first half of the match.

The rest of the group began training with a warm-up focused on strength and technical drills. Then came an attack-versus-defense exercise. To wrap up, Roger Machado ran a game focused on pressing situations, building out from the back, and attacking playmaking.

In addition to Luciano, another boost for São Paulo was the return of Lucca, who also did not travel to Uruguay due to pain in his right thigh area. The youngster trained normally. Ryan Francisco, back after surgery on the ACL in his left knee, also took part in the activities with the squad.

Calleri, following concussion protocol, and Sabino, with pain in his right calf, trained only indoors at the training center. Before traveling to Salvador, Tricolor will hold one more training session on Friday morning.

Major absence

In an official statement, the club announced that during Thursday’s activities, defensive midfielder Pablo Maia suffered an accidental collision and, after imaging tests, was diagnosed with fractures to his face and nose. On Friday, the player will undergo surgical procedures.
