Hoffenheim sporting director Andreas Schicker – who presently finds himself caught in the middle of administrative chaos at his Bundesliga club – is now being actively courted by two other outfits. The 39-year-old’s future remains very much up-in-the-air. Austria’s RB Salzburg and Germany’s VfL Wolfsburg are both seeking to secure Schicker’s services.

RB Salzburg have made no secret of the fact that they would love to bring Schicker back to his native country. VfL Wolfsburg also find themselves on the market for a new sporting director after sacking Sebastian Schinzielorz earlier this week. Kicker reports that the Wolfsburg supervisory board have approached Shicker about the position.

Chances that Schicker will remain with Hoffenheim now appear very slim. The Sinsheim-based club will have to hold fresh managerial leadership elections in a short space of time. Following the resignation of club President and board chairman Jörg Albrecht, the faction within the TSG front office committed to pulling Hoffenheim away from those loyal to club patron Dietmar Hopp is virtually non-existent.

Schicker – thanks to his testimony against Hopp’s close-confidant Roger Wittmann in a recent civil trial – is obviously not in Hopp’s good graces. The fact that Schicker no longer has any allies in the TSG administration will almost certainly lead to him wishing to extricate himself from the club’s toxic politics. One can think of few, if any, reasons, for Schicker to stay.

A move to Wolfsburg nevertheless comes fraught with its own potential problems. Kicker reports that Wolfsburg have not yet necessarily given up on the idea of parting company with current managing director Peter Christiansen. For now, Christiansen has been permitted to remain in the wake of both Schindzielorz and head coach Paul Simonis’ sacking.

Christiansen reportedly didn’t impress the Wolfsburg board with his recent outburst in a pre-match interview.Kicker emphasizes that it is the Wolfsburg board, and not Christiansen, who are attempting to recruit Schicker. It may be the case that Schicker is in discussions to work in place of, and not underneath, Christiansen.
