Tommy Doyle could be set to rejoin Wolves' squad at the end of the season, but awaits Birmingham's transfer decision
Wolverhampton Wanderers have officially been relegated to the Championship, with their drop back to the second tier coming as little shock to anyone who has kept up to date with their campaign.
Certainly, it has not been a memorable season at Molineux, with many Wolves fans having been resigned to relegation for months at this point.
The Old Gold have had a truly disastrous year in almost every metric imaginable, with three wins in 33 league games this season enough to send them down with five games to spare after West Ham's 0-0 draw away to Crystal Palace on Monday night.
It's set to be a huge rebuild in the Black Country this summer, though, with relegation having been an almost certainty for a while now, preparations for how their side may look in the Championship will be well underway.
Loan players are due to return to the club, whilst Rob Edwards will have been busy sounding out potential targets, as Wolves' squad for next campaign begins to take shape.
There will likely be a mass exodus of players exiting Molineux, though the fate of one player still hangs in the balance, with an option to buy inserted in his loan agreement yet to be triggered.

Tommy Doyle left Wolves to join Birmingham City on loan in the Championship in the summer, and since making the move down the road to St Andrews, things haven't exactly gone to plan for the midfielder.
Doyle has started less than half the available games in Chris Davies' side this campaign, competing for minutes in the middle of the park with the likes of Seung-Ho Paik, Tomoki Iwata, and January arrival Jhon Solis.
Upon the agreement of joining the Blues on loan, there existed a clause where Birmingham had to sign Doyle for £10 million if they were promoted to the top-flight, but with that now not a possibility, a return to Wolves seems the most likely option.
Birmingham can still choose to pursue a permanent move for Doyle this summer, regardless, but that is looking unlikely, especially considering they have spent over £50 million on arrivals over the past two years.
When asked what the future holds for Doyle back in March, head coach Davies said, "I think it’s open. The obvious thing would be that he would go back to his parent club. We haven’t really gone that far to discuss that.
"That’s what I would envisage happening but you never know, I suppose a lot would depend on these next six weeks.
Tommy would probably say that he would have liked to have played more minutes than he has, but he’s definitely been an important player for us and in my eyes a core player around the squad.
"He’s still got a big role to play and he’s a good character. We’ve had four or five good midfield players in the squad this season, overall I think he’s had a positive season."
As for now, Doyle's future remains up in the air for speculation, and where he will be playing his football next year is entirely up for debate.
Under contract at Wolves until the summer of 2028, there is every chance the former Manchester City player could work his way back into the squad at Molineux for next season, though whether Edwards sees him as part of his plans is another question.

Although he was allowed to leave this summer, Doyle could still have a big part to play for Wolves heading into next season.
There will almost certainly be an array of exits following their relegation, with both Brazilian midfielders Joao Gomes and Andre already seeing links with Leeds United in the top-flight. Angel Gomes' move from Marseille has yet to be made permanent, and it is up in the air whether it will or not.
If Birmingham doesn't pursue a permanent deal for Doyle, then it seems almost certain that he will be reintegrated back into the squad under Edwards, unless the Welsh boss really sees no way of incorporating him back into the Wolves side.
Doyle, at 24, has over 50 Premier League appearances to his name and is closing in on 100 in the Championship, with his pedigree evident to see, and he could be like a completely new signing at Molineux next season.
