Wolves are considering a summer move for James Tavernier, with the 34-year-old among options to bolster next season’s squad, ExpressAndStar.com understands.
Tavernier is out of contract at Rangers at the end of the season and has announced he will leave after 11 years with the club.
Since joining Rangers in 2015, he has been a key figure and captain for eight years, lifting the Scottish Premiership, Scottish Cup and League Cup. He also led them to the 2022 Europa League final, lost on penalties to Eintracht Frankfurt, and has 144 goals in 563 appearances.
In a social media message, he called the decision difficult, said Rangers had been central to his family’s life and he had always given everything. He was proud to have captained since 2018, vowed to give his all as they push for the title, and felt the time was right for a new challenge.
Wolves view his experience and leadership as valuable in a summer expected to bring significant ins and outs.
They are also keen on free agent Dan Neil, who will leave Sunderland when his deal expires this summer, following a loan at Ipswich. The 24-year-old captained Sunderland to Championship promotion and would strengthen midfield options, with Andre and Joao Gomes likely to be sold.
Wolves are additionally monitoring Torino winger Alieu Njie. The 20-year-old has one goal and one assist in 11 Serie A games this season, with only one start. Since his 2024 senior debut, he has made 31 appearances in all competitions, scoring two and assisting one.
