Wolves have moved to land Kieran Trippier, with the former England full back verbally agreeing a two-year contract as they fend off rival interest.
According to ExpressAndStar.com, the 35-year-old has an option of a third year, Rob Edwards was central to talks, and the deal is set to be completed once the La Liga winner returns from holiday.
The 54-cap international is set to be the first summer arrival. The development follows last week’s news that Brazilian international Andre has committed to the club for next season, with Wolves also linked to a move for former striker Raul Jimenez.
Supporters called it a smart start to the window, arguing that leadership and experience were overdue and suggesting Trippier could even become captain.
Many praised owners Fosun despite previous criticism over decisions that culminated in relegation, saying that if the move happens it would show long-awaited intent and lift optimism for the new campaign.
Others marvelled that, in the Championship, the club could field a Brazilian international and an England international who scored in a World Cup semi-final. Some labelled it the best signing in years and urged Edwards and chairman Nathan Shi to keep going.
