Millwall should be looking to sign Luke Cundle from Wolves to add more creativity to the side.

Millwall have had a positive start to the Championship season, with Neil Harris’ side unbeaten in seven and only one point away from the play-off places.

With victories against Leeds United and Burnley in that period, the Lions have shown they can compete with the best in the league on their day, and there’s no doubt that a top six finish will be the aim, particularly when you look at just how good they have been since Harris’ return.

However, as is often the case, the January window could be key in the promotion battle, and Millwall don’t have the resources of many of their rivals.

Luke Cundle should be on Millwall’s radar

Therefore, the club has to be smart in their recruitment, as they seek players who are within their budget, whether it’s a loan or a permanent switch.

And, one player who should be on their radar is Wolves midfielder Luke Cundle.

The 22-year-old is well known to Championship fans as he spent the previous two campaigns in the division, firstly with Swansea City, before joining Plymouth Argyle and then Stoke City last season.

For whatever reason, a move wasn’t sorted this summer despite interest from Stoke, which has left Cundle featuring for Wolves U21 side in the past few months, so he will be desperate to get senior football in the New Year.

Luke Cundle would bring creativity to Millwall side

On paper, he would appear to be a great fit for the Londoners as he could bring that extra technical ability and quality in the final third, which Millwall sometimes lack.

Harris' side have been hugely impressive this season - combining a solid defensive unit with a team that has created the fourth-most big chances in the division (FotMob).

They're also fifth in terms of big chances missed while the four wins in the past seven games have come by a 1-0 scoreline, and only West Brom have scored fewer goals than Millwall from the teams above them.

That’s not a criticism of the Lions, as they’ve found a way of playing that works, and it should be reiterated that their play does warrant more in front of goal.

Nevertheless, there’s no doubt that the priority in the upcoming window is about adding more attacking threat and Cundle would bring real quality in the final third.

The Wolves man is comfortable in possession and is capable of playing in different roles. So, if Harris wanted him to pick the ball up deep to start attacks, that’s something he could do.

Equally so, he is also good at finding space in the final third with his intelligent movement, and he could be the one who knits things together with his eye for a pass and his technique.

Luke Cundle has a point to prove

Finally, Cundle would also appear to suit the profile of the Millwall squad.

As mentioned, this isn’t a group that is full of egos or big-money signings. Instead, it’s a hardworking squad that all has a point to prove, and in many cases, if they don’t reach the Premier League with Millwall, it’s unlikely to happen.

In Cundle, they would be getting someone who is desperate to prove his worth after a frustrating period at Molineux.

He is clearly not in Gary O’Neil’s plans, which is understandable given the quality ahead of him, but he needs to get out playing to show what he can do on a regular basis.

So, a move to Millwall could suit all parties, and he could be the creative addition Harris needs to make this a truly memorable season at The Den.
