Wolves match Premier League record for worst start to a season

Wolves's Premier League struggles have reached a remarkable low.

Following their 2-0 defeat to Brentford at Molineux, Wolves have now equalled Sheffield United’s record for the most games without a win to begin a top-flight campaign.

The Blades went winless across their opening 17 fixtures in the 2020-21 season, setting a record that many thought might stand for years. However, 2025-26 has been cruel to Wolves, who have now gone 17 matches without tasting victory.

It’s been a torrid campaign for the Midlands club. Like Sheffield United, Wolves have only collected two points from their first 17 games, drawing twice and losing 15 times. Saturday’s defeat came courtesy of a brace from Brentford’s Keane Lewis-Potter.

Offensively, Wolves have struggled to make any impact, scoring just nine goals- the fewest in the league. At the other end, their defence has been leaky, conceding 37 times, more than any other side.

They’ve also been beaten by all three promoted teams this season and have now suffered ten consecutive league defeats, with their last league point coming on 5 October in a 1-1 draw with Brighton. Their only other draw was a 1-1 stalemate at Tottenham, where a stoppage-time equaliser from João Palhinha denied them victory.

If Wolves fail to win their next fixture, they will set a new Premier League record for the worst start to a season. That game sees them head to Anfield to face reigning champions Liverpool - a daunting prospect given their current form.
