Wolverhampton Wanderers midfielder Joao Gomes has agreed a deal to leave Molineux this summer and join Serie A side Napoli (h/t journalist Gianluca Di Marzio).
The Wolves ace has been one of the club’s better players despite their poor performances, which have left them rooted to the bottom of the Premier League table.
However, the 24-year-old has now agreed to join Napoli in the summer transfer window while the Italians work to hash out a deal with Wolves.
Gomes is adept at breaking down opposition attacks and driving forward with the ball. He can adeptly replace either Andre-Frank Zambo Anguissa or Stanislav Lobotka in the centre of the park.
Wolves will need a worthy replacement for Gomes in the ranks and should look no further than Chelsea’s Dario Essugo, who is itching for a chance to prove his mettle.
The club could take him on a season-long loan as he has struggled for opportunities at Chelsea.
Essugo is a talented central midfielder who boasts incredible stamina, remarkable ball-winning ability, and a penchant for driving play.
He can improve at Wolves with consistent playing time, filling the Gomes-shaped hole in the squad.
Essugo would likely be keen to seize the opportunity to impress at Wolves as he tries to break into the Chelsea first team.
Wolves can invest the money from the Gomes transfer in more pressing positions.
