Wolverhampton Wanderers have parted company with head coach Vítor Pereira after a dismal start to the Premier League campaign left them bottom of the table and eight points adrift of safety, BBC Sport reports.
Saturday’s 3-0 defeat to Fulham marked Wolves’ eighth loss in ten matches, extending their winless run and prompting the club’s hierarchy to act. In a statement confirming Pereira’s departure, along with all eight members of his backroom staff, Wolves said that “results and performances have fallen below acceptable standards.”
Executive chairman Jeff Shi praised the Portuguese coach for his “tireless” work since joining in December 2024 but admitted “a change in leadership was deemed necessary.” Academy coaches James Collins and Richard Walker will oversee first-team training while the club searches for a replacement, its fifth permanent manager in four years.
Pereira, who had signed a new three-year deal as recently as September, leaves with regret. “It has been a privilege to manage this club and experience unique moments with the supporters,” he said, while expressing disappointment at how quickly optimism evaporated following last season’s strong finish.
That optimism was eroded by a summer of high-profile departures, including Matheus Cunha, Rayan Aït-Nouri, and Nelson Semedo, as well as persistent uncertainty around striker Jørgen Strand Larsen. Despite flashes of promise in the Carabao Cup, Wolves’ league form deteriorated sharply.
Saturday’s defeat at Craven Cottage, described by Pereira himself as “maybe the worst performance for my team,” proved the final blow. With morale low and survival hopes fading, Wolves once again find themselves rebuilding amid the Premier League’s unforgiving churn.
