Wolves have appointed Cesar Peixoto after sacking Rob Edwards, moving quickly to reset their promotion push.

According to ExpressAndStar.com, the 46-year-old will leave Gil Vicente after guiding them to sixth in Portugal last season, and news of his impending deal leaked on Wednesday night, with some senior staff unaware of the change until it broke.

Chairman Nathan Shi said the decision was hard and followed a full post-season review. He thanked Edwards for professionalism during a difficult period, but concluded a different football direction better fits the style, identity and competitiveness the club want. Shi framed the move as part of building sustainable success through clarity, alignment and tough choices.

Edwards replaced Vitor Pereira in November and lasted 211 days before being dismissed on Thursday morning. He was informed by phone after word of the change had already circulated the previous evening.

Edwards departs with his coaching staff, though Rui Pedro Silva’s future is unresolved. The Portuguese assistant previously worked under Nuno Espirito Santo at Wolves and returned in December after Edwards’ appointment.

Peixoto is set to take the Molineux hotseat as Wolves seek a swift return to the Premier League.
