The nominees for the Women’s PFA Players’ Player of the Year award has been announced, with only one player from Women’s Super League champions Chelsea making the six-player shortlist.
Erin Cuthbert was included on the shortlist voted for by players in the Professional Footballers Association.
The Scotland international will find out in August whether she has done enough among her peers to clinch the award.
It comes after three of her Chelsea teammates were included in the running for the PFA Young Player of the Year award: Aggie Beever-Jones, Maika Hamano, and Wieke Kaptein.
Champions League winners Arsenal are represented by England star Alessia Russo and Spaniard Mariona Caldentey in the shortlist for the Players’ Player of the Year award.
The final three players on the list are Man City pair Mary Fowler and Yui Hasegawa, and Manchester United’s Phallon Tullis-Joyce.
Spanish international Mariona Caldentey is the first nominee on the Women’s PFA Players’ Player of the Year award shortlist.
The 29-year-old arrived from Barcelona last summer and registered nine goals and five assists in the WSL.
She also scored eight goals for the Gunners during their Champions League winning campaign.
Erin Cuthbert is the only representative on the shortlist from WSL champions Chelsea.
The Scotland international scored eight goals in 34 appearances across all competitions for the Blues who the domestic treble.
Notable players omitted from the shortlist include top-scorer Aggie Beever-Jones, Millie Bright, Hannah Hampton and Sjoeke Nusken.
Mary Fowler is the only player to make the nominees for the Players’ Player of the Year and Young Player of the Year awards.
The 22-year-old scored six goals and registered seven assists – with only Lauren Hemp setting up more goals in the top-flight.
Fowler also set a WSL record by notching up two goal involvements in four successive matches.
Yui Hasegawa had her best season at Man City and was named the club’s Player of the Year.
Although the midfielder didn’t notch up a single goal she led the way in other statistics.
She completed the most dribbles in the WSL season, won possession more times than any other player and didn’t concede a single foul during the league campaign.
Lioness star Alessia Russo is the only English player featured on the six-person shortlist for the prestigious award.
The 26-year-old ended the WSL season as joint top-scorer alongside Manchester City’s Khadija Shaw – the winner of last year’s Players’ Player of the Year award.
Russo has already downplayed her Ballon d’Or chances should England prevail at Euro 2025 this summer.
Manchester United goalkeeper Phallon Tullis-Joyce kept 18 clean sheets in 30 games across all competitions.
The USA international also only conceded 22 goals in her debut season for the Red Devils.
Tullis-Joyce succeeded former England No 1 Mary Earps as United’s first-choice goalkeeper at the start of the season.
The winner of the Women’s PFA Players’ Player of the Year award will be announced on August 19th.
It will be announced at a ceremony held at the Manchester Opera House on the same night that the Young Player of the Year is also announced.
