World Cup 2026: São Tomé and Príncipe fall to Namibia

The nightmare continues for São Tomé and Príncipe in the 2026 World Cup qualifiers. The team suffered their eighth consecutive defeat, losing 3-0 to Namibia on Tuesday in Francistown, Botswana.

Namibia’s captain, Peter Shalulile, was the star of the match. The Mamelodi Sundowns striker delivered a decisive hat-trick, breaking the deadlock in the 41st minute before striking again in the 66th and 71st minutes. His performance allowed the Brave Warriors to strengthen their position in the qualification race.

With this result, Namibia now have 15 points and remain in contention for second place in Group H, which could secure a spot in the playoffs. They maintain a four-point lead over Liberia and are five points ahead of both Malawi and Equatorial Guinea. Tunisia still tops the group with 22 points.

For São Tomé and Príncipe, the situation is even more difficult. Bottom of the group with zero points, the Islanders will look to salvage some pride in their final two matches at home, against Tunisia on November 8 and then Malawi on November 11.
