Concerns about Lennart Karl are growing. Following his injury in the final training session of the German national team, there are increasing signs that the Bayern youngster could miss the upcoming World Cup. National coach Julian Nagelsmann has expressed his concern, while the DFB is already preparing to nominate a replacement
Lennart Karl was supposed to be one of the most exciting German players at the upcoming World Cup, but now the 18-year-old’s dream is in danger of being shattered just before the tournament
During the final training session before the last World Cup test against the USA, the attacking player picked up an injury and had to pull out of the session early. Initial reactions from the DFB camp leave little room for optimism
„To be honest, it didn’t look so good,“ explained national coach Julian Nagelsmann at the press conference on Friday. The Bayern professional was then taken to hospital for further examination, where an MRI will be used to determine the exact diagnosis
„He’s going to the hospital now, where they’ll take a picture. We first have to process the situation, as does he. We need a diagnosis for that. Then we’ll see if we can nominate a replacement,“ said Nagelsmann
As reported by Sky, Nagelsmann has already reacted to the possible bad news. According to the report, Assan Ouedraogo will be called up to replace the injured Karl. Nagelsmann is said to have already informed the Leipzig man personally about the decision
Although the final diagnosis is still pending, there are many indications that Karl could miss the World Cup. According to FIFA regulations, Germany are allowed to replace injured outfield players until one day before the World Cup opener against Curacao on 14 June
The fact that the DFB has already taken concrete steps shows how seriously those responsible view the situation
For Lennart Karl, the World Cup could be over before it has even begun.
