Despite having added three new defenders to their team this summer, i.e., Marc Cucurella, Ibrahima Konate, and Denzel Dumfries, Real Madrid are still looking to add another center-back into their team before the start of the next season.

For this purpose, they are being linked with three high-profile names, i.e., the Manchester City defender Ruben Dias, the Inter Milan center-back Alessandro Bastoni, and the Borussia Dortmund center-back Nico Schlotterbeck.

However, signing the former two of these players is seemingly quite difficult at this point in time, as City have ruled out a transfer for Dias and Bastoni is going to be too expensive, with Inter not willing to negotiate for a fee lower than €70 million.

In such a context, the German center-back is a more realistic option, as a clause in his recently renewed contract allows him to leave for some clubs, including Real Madrid, Barcelona, and Liverpool, with a release clause of €50 million.

However, as Diario AS has noted, a complication in this operation has also arisen with the injury that he suffered while playing for Germany in the World Cup 2026, which is set to keep him out for two months. The above-mentioned release clause is valid only till 31th July, and after that date, the door would close to his transfer.

This deadline is set to arrive in a week and a month, and thus, he would still not have recovered from his injury when his date arrives. As a result, if they want him, they would have to get him by paying his release clause, while not having any good idea of how he will recover from his injury.

As a result, Real Madrid are having doubts about this transfer, and it is quite sad to see Nico Schlotterbeck suffering this injury problem at such a critical point in his career, with the World Cup ongoing and his future also on the line.
