Everton take shock Merseyside derby win after controversial call

Scorers: Snoeijs 41' (PEN)

A controversial penalty award saw Everton win for the first time this season against derby rivals Liverpool.

After the Reds dominated the early stages of the game, Everton were awarded a penalty just before half-time.

Replays showed that Honoka Hayashi was outside the box when she was fouled by Fuga Nakano, but with no VAR in the WSL, it was up to Katja Snoeijs to take the spot kick, which she converted to put Everton ahead.

Liverpool huffed and puffed but failed to find the back of the net as Courtney Brosnan made several big saves to keep her side in it.

First goal for Bizet seals Man Utd win

Scorers: Terland 45+3', Bizet 80'

Manchester United were without Ella Toone, but registered a 2-0 win away at Leicester City.

The away side were ahead when some tricky wing play by Geyse on the right-hand side allowed her to lift her cross into the penalty area, which Elisabeth Terland headed home in first-half stoppage time.

As the game headed into the final stages, Leicester had their backs to the wall as Janina Leitzig made a save from a Celin Bizet shot.

That was one of a number of chances the home side faced, but Bizet eventually found a breakthrough as she drove forward with determination and made no mistake in slotting past Leitzig this time.

Aston Villa score dramatic late goal to register first win

Scorers: Cato 30', Blanchard 86'; Patten 40', Daly 45+5', Salmon 90+4'

Aston Villa came back to record a dramatic first win of the season, as a stoppage time goal made it 3-2 to the hosts.

Crystal Palace went ahead when My Cato broke free of her marker in the box and fired home from a central position.

Although struggling for form, the home side rallied and found the equaliser when Anna Patten rolled her shot beyond Palace goalkeeper Shae Yanez, who was beaten at her near post.

That goal gave the home side confidence and Rachel Daly was on hand to put her side ahead, making a run into the box and pointing for the pass before sliding in to deliver an excellent finish.

Villa kept their opponents at bay for almost the entirety of the second half, but a superb ball from Katie Robinson was smashed home by Annabel Blanchard.

That looked to have secured the draw for the newly-promoted side, but out of nowhere Villa hit the winner through a delightful turn and finish from the edge of the box from Ebony Salmon.

There is another round of Women's Champions League action in midweek as Chelsea host Celtic, Manchester City travel to Hammarby and Arsenal face a home tie with Juventus.
