Real Madrid are already planning their next move in the transfer market, and all indications suggest the next addition will be in defence.

With Xabi Alonso determined to consolidate the three-centre-back formation he successfully used against RB Salzburg in the FIFA Club World Cup group stage, he has requested the signing of a familiar name – Piero Hincapie, reports Fichajes.

The Ecuadorian centre-back, who previously played under Alonso at Bayer Leverkusen, is seen as the ideal candidate for this new defensive model.

Alonso wants Hincapie

Alonso has been clear about the profile he is seeking. He needs a defender who can not only close down spaces, but also has the ability to build play from the back with intelligence. In this regard, Hincapie provides assurances.

At 22 years old, the South American footballer has demonstrated maturity, tactical awareness, and skill with the ball – qualities that make him an appealing piece for the new Real Madrid project.

The addition of Hincapie would not only strengthen the defensive depth but would also allow for more robust squad rotation in an increasingly demanding calendar, especially considering that David Alaba has suffered yet another injury and Antonio Rudiger is not getting younger.

In addition to his tactical fit, Hincapie’s market value makes the move even more attractive. It is estimated that the signing could be completed for around €40 million, an affordable amount for Madrid if the club manages to finalise a major departure.

Among the potential candidates to leave are high-profile names such as Rodrygo Goes and Eduardo Camavinga, both of whom have strong reputations across Europe and could generate substantial revenue.

The signings of Alvaro Carreras and a new midfielder might be consider bigger priorities at the moment, but it appears that Real Madrid are keeping an eye on Hincapie’s situation.
