Xabi Alonso cautious over potential Kylian Mbappé return against Barcelona | OneFootball

Xabi Alonso said they will weigh up the risk as Kylian Mbappé could feature against Barcelona in Sunday’s Spanish Super Cup final in Jeddah, after a left knee problem sidelined him since late December.

According to L'Équipe, the forward had initially been expected to be out for about three weeks, yet a comeback this weekend remains possible.

Alonso said Mbappé is feeling much better, that any decision must balance risk and responsibility, and that they will not take reckless calls. After Saturday’s training, they will assess whether he is ready to start or better used from the bench.

The France striker has accelerated his recovery, receiving treatment and working daily at Real Madrid’s training centre with a fitness coach and a physio assigned to him.

He arrived in Jeddah on Friday and trained with the group.
