Xabi Alonso says Kylian Mbappé unlikely to play against Manchester City | OneFootball

Speaking to Movistar+, Xabi Alonso said Kylian Mbappé was not in condition to play and was unlikely to feature against Manchester City on Wednesday night in the Champions League.

The forward hurt his knee in the 0-2 defeat at Celta Vigo on Sunday and skipped training yesterday. He was still called up for the game, then after a final test at Valdebebas at midday he was named among the substitutes. He did not even come out to warm up with the other bench players.

Alonso added there was very little chance Mbappé would come on.

He said they would see if he could do a little at the end, but the player did not feel right and, since he cannot perform at 100%, they would not take excessive risks.

Gonzalo Garcia starts up front in his place, his first Champions League start and only his second start of the season.
