Yaw Yeboah and Derrick Jones have been banned for life by MLS for betting on matches, including some of their own.

The league said in a statement that the pair, neither under contract with an MLS club, were banned for breaching its gambling policy after bets in 2024 and 2025, including on their own matches, with one wager on 19 October predicting Jones would be booked, which occurred, while there was no evidence the bets affected any result, and that the players, provisionally suspended since October, had probably shared confidential information with other bettors, including an intention to take a yellow card.

Yeboah, 28, spent 2015-2016 with Lille. He joined LAFC in 2025 from Columbus Crew, saw his contract terminated in January, then moved to China in February.

Jones, 29, has played for multiple MLS clubs and won the title in 2024 with Columbus. He has been without a club since the start of the year.

The cases come amid a wider rise in betting issues across sport in the United States, where wagering has recently been legalised in most states.
