Former Chelsea player Pat Nevin believes Joao Felix is one of the most underrated players and has backed him to a big success at Stamford Bridge.

Felix was one of three high profile attacking signings to arrive at Stamford Bridge this summer along with Jadon Sancho and Pedro Neto.

The Blues signed the Portugal international in a deal worth £44.5m from Atletico Madrid, but it’s been a slow start to the season for the 24-year-old.

Nevin a huge fan of Felix

Felix isn’t a stranger to Chelsea and he spent time on loan at the club during the 2022/2023 campaign under Graham Potter and Frank Lampard.

The attacker has yet to start a Premier League game and has played second fiddle to Cole Palmer in the number ten role, and sporting director Paul Winstanley recently backed the England international as a future Ballon d’Or winner.

Felix has had to make do with starts in the cup competitions so far, with his only goal this season coming in the 6-2 win against Wolves.

There’s no doubting his talent but Felix continues to divide opinion and lacks end product despite being very pleasing to watch on the eye.

Currently he’s a squad player and he will have to significantly improve his performances if he’s going to force his way into the team on a more regular basis, but Nevin believes the Portuguese is one of the most underrated players.

“I would add Joao Felix into this, because I think he’s fabulous, he is right up there with the most underrated players,” he told Sports Mole as cited on on X.com.

“You’ll find out, trust me, he’s a spectacularly special player.”

Chelsea fans are still waiting to see the best of Felix, who arguably hasn’t really progressed since leaving Benfica for Atletico Madrid in a big money move back in 2019.

Felix is likely to have a number of years to prove his worth having signed a seven year deal until 2031, with Winstanley and Laurence Stewart recently explaining why Chelsea offer long term contracts.
