Lyon stayed top of the Europa League league phase with a 1-0 win at Young Boys, Ainsley Maitland-Niles deciding it before half-time. The result secures Les Gones a RO16 place.

Tanner Tessmann headed off target from a Moreira cross in a quiet opening. Descamps then passed to a yellow shirt, Cordova fed Alvin Sanches, and the midfielder struck the bar. Moreira cut inside and drew a fine save from Keller before Lyon struck.

Pavel Šulc reached the byline and his cross was palmed into danger by Keller, Maitland-Niles thumped into the roof of the net on the stroke of half-time.

The hosts thought they had levelled on the hour when Sanches scored, but it was ruled offside as Sérgio Cordova obstructed Maitland-Niles. Young Boys pressed after the break, with substitute Montero forcing an awkward backpass to Descamps from a dangerous cross.

Former Lille forward Alain Virginius hit the post after a clever Montero flick released him. Montero then picked out Christian Fassnacht at the far post, but he could not convert as Lyon held firm.
