Aston Villa midfielder Youri Tielemans missed the Villains’ EFL Cup match versus Brentford with a calf injury. He had picked up a knock at Villa Park over the weekend.

The Aston Villa ace came off at half-time against Everton, and manager Unai Emery would have hoped to have him back for this mid-week tie.

Tielemans remains sidelined, but according to Jacob Tanswell, the “early assessments from Villa are optimistic”.

There are no definitive results, but he “could play a couple of key fixtures before the international break”.

The Villains need the 28-year-old midfield general back to his best soon, but they could be waiting till next month.

The next break starts on October 5, but he could feature in one of the quick-fire fixtures against Feyenoord or Burnley before international duties.

The Belgian is a top midfielder on his day and is a key player to the club’s bid to bounce back from an atrocious start to the season.

Tielemans, who registered five goals and ten assists in 52 appearances last term, has not scored a goal or created a big chance this season.

The Villans are struggling and need Tielemans back fit and firing.

Villa are eager to kickstart their season after failing to win any of their opening three Premier League games without scoring.

Today’s clash with the Bees presents an opportunity to find the spark that’s been missing.

Emery turned to Villa’s late-window signings, Jadon Sancho and Harvey Elliott, to help provide the x-factor in the final third versus Brentford.

Boubacar Kamara could also prove a timely boost for Villa, with the French midfielder named in tonight’s matchday squad and starting on the bench.

His return is a welcome sight after missing the defeat to Crystal Palace before the September international break, as well as the goalless draw at Everton last weekend.

Kamara’s absence has been felt in midfield, where his energy, balance, and defensive discipline give Villa more control.

Having recovered from the hamstring injury he sustained in the 1-0 loss at Brentford, the Frenchman will be eager to make his mark again once Emery calls upon him.
