Yuri Alberto will miss Corinthians’ derby at Santos on Sunday in the sixth round of the Brasileirão. “From next week I can be back in the squad. On Thursday, if I am not mistaken, it is against Chapecoense in Chapecó.”
He told TV Vanguarda at an event in São José dos Campos on Friday.
The number nine has not played since 15 February, the win over São Bernardo in the final round of the Paulista first phase. Rested, he came on 17 minutes into the second half, lasted 27 minutes, then was replaced by Gabriel Paulista after a grade 2 strain in his left hamstring.
He began his physical transition on 3 March, accelerating recovery with extra sessions at CT Joaquim Grava and additional work away from the club. He is Corinthians’ top scorer this season with three goals in nine games, despite missing the last five.
“I am working hard to come back in good physical shape. I know it is a delicate moment for the team, we need each other. I need to come back very well, I am very confident to help my team-mates.”
Since his injury, Corinthians have managed only one win and are four games without victory, with elimination from the Paulista in that run. Dorival Júnior’s side lost to Coritiba at Neo Química Arena on Wednesday, prompting protests from organised supporters at the training ground on Friday. Chapecoense away is scheduled for Thursday 19 at 21:30 at Arena Condá.
