Ivan Zazzaroni feels that the rupture between Atalanta and Ademola Lookman shows that “even in football, promises have weight.”
Writing in his editorial in today’s print edition of Rome-based newspaper Corriere dello Sport, via FCInterNews, Zazzaroni blasted La Dea for their handling of the transfer saga with Inter Milan.
Yesterday the biggest bombshell yet in the summer transfer soap opera between Ademola Lookman, Atalanta, and Inter Milan arrived.
Behind the scenes, the 27-year-old former RB Leipzig forward has been pressuring Atalanta into selling him. By all accounts, he only wants Inter this summer.
Lookman had already scrubbed all traces of his current employers from his social media accounts a couple days prior. That was not exactly a subtle way to send a message.
But yesterday, Lookman took his grievance to a new level. He openly demanded a transfer.
Furthermore, there were harsh words as the player accused Atalanta of “poor treatment” and “breaking a promise.”

Corriere dello Sport editor Ivan Zazzaroni gave his thoughts on the supposed promise at the heart of this transfer saga.
Lookman feels that Atalanta gave him their word that they would sell him this summer for a “fair” offer.
And Zazzaroni argues that “Words have meaning, and promises have weight.”
“Even in a world like professional football. Where the norm is to consistently break the rules.”
“Even the most rigid and widely accepted ones,” the Corriere dello Sport editor goes on.
“You see it happen, I promise you that if such and such an offer arrives in a few months. Words that are spoken with too much ease – during a period of difficulties in the relationship.”
“Just to kick the can down the road,” Zazzaroni notes.
“And then at a later time, the person who receives the promise can exploit it.”
“This is the second time that this has happened to Atalanta in the space of just twelve months,” Zazzaroni adds.
“Last year it was Koopmeiners who claimed he had the right to move to Juve. (And in the end, he went to Turin.)”
“Now it’s Lookman’s turn.”
Zazzaroni writes that “an old proverb says that a promise made at sea must be kept on land.”
“And for Lookman, Inter has become his port of call. A landing place he’s happy with, to the point that he’s openly declared his desire to join them.”
