According to a report from L’Équipe, Zinédine Zidane is “quietly” preparing to succeed Didier Deschamps as the manager of France following his resignation after the 2026 World Cup. The former Real Madrid boss is aware that several players within the Les Bleus squad are anticipating his appointment as the new head coach.
In anticipation of taking the role when Deschamps steps down from the post, the 1998 Ballon d’Or winner has already discussed his former teammate’s experiences in charge of the national team. The former midfielder has discussed managing Les Bleus with Laurent Blanc, who was France boss between 2010 and 2012.
L’Équipe understands that the Frenchman watches his compatriots closely and has taken several notes about the way players in and around the Les Bleus set up. Additionally, the former Marseille midfielder has already begun to plot how he would like France to play should he eventually receive the job. There has been no formal contact between the French Football Federation and Zidane, but the World Cup winner appears to have little competition for the role.
