According to Sky Germany, the Bundesliga side are working on a deal to bring the experienced left-back to the RheinEnergieStadion. The 27-year-old is currently a free agent after his contract with French club Auxerre expired.

Mensah has featured prominently for Ghana at this summer’s World Cup, playing every minute of the Black Stars’ campaign so far. Further talks are expected to take place once Ghana’s involvement in the tournament comes to an end.

The defender made 30 Ligue 1 appearances for Auxerre last season, helping the club secure top-flight survival. Should a deal be completed, Mensah is expected to replace Kristoffer Lund, who recently departed the Billy Goats following the expiration of his loan deal.
