Union Berlin have parted company with head coach Steffen Baumgart with immediate effect after Saturdayâs defeat to bottom side 1. FC Heidenheim.
The club confirmed the decision shortly after the match, with assistants Danilo de Souza and Kevin McKenna also leaving. According to BuLi News, the move ends Baumgartâs tenure.
Appointed in December 2024, Baumgart managed only two wins across his last 14 Bundesliga games. The loss leaves Union just seven points above the relegation play-off place.
Horst Heldt, the clubâs director of menâs professional football, thanked Baumgart, de Souza and McKenna for their work and wished them well both professionally and personally.
Marie-Louise Eta will lead the first team for the remainder of the season. The former U-19s coach is set to become head coach of the womenâs first team and is the first woman to lead a Bundesliga side.
Eta said unity has long been one of Unionâs strengths in moments like this and expressed confidence that the team will secure the crucial points.
