Vincent Kompany’s week at FC Bayern could hardly be more symbolic. Kompany himself analysed the game in his usual matter-of-fact manner after the final whistle: „You always had the feeling that the game was on a knife-edge and could tip one way or the other. We felt we had more and better chances.“ At the same time, he highlighted the defensive work and praised Manuel Neuer for „some incredible saves“

It was also typical of the 40-year-old to deal with the result. Despite the prestigious victory, he remained focused: „Everyone in the dressing room is still very calm, we have to win again to progress.“ Nevertheless, he did not want to downplay the significance of the moment: „I want our boys to know that they won at the Bernabéu. That is also worth something, we have to take that with us.“

However, Kompany’s special week is not over yet. The next Bundesliga fixture awaits on Saturday with an away game at FC St. Pauli, before the second leg against Real Madrid for a place in the semi-finals
