The fullback Hector Fort is one of the players that FC Barcelona have playing away on loan this season. The Spaniard is playing for Elche, a side that is currently battling relegation with 3 games left in La Liga.

Thus, it was a particularly important game for Elche when they faced Real Betis in their last La Liga game. As SPORT has reported, the on-loan Blaugrana fullback was there to help his team when they needed him the most, as he scored his side’s only goal.

However, he was unable to help his side salvage even a point, especially as one of his teammates, Petrot, was shown a red card at the start of the second half, and the match ended in a 1-2 defeat for Elche.

Fort’s goal carried even more weight considering everything he has been through in recent months. The Barcelona academy graduate had been sidelined for a long spell after suffering a dislocated left shoulder just before Christmas against Rayo Vallecano, a game in which he also scored his first-ever La Liga goal before the injury cut short his afternoon.

Since then, he missed around 15 matches and did not return to a squad list until April 22 against Atletico de Madrid, although he did not feature.

He made his comeback four days later against Oviedo, starting and playing more than an hour, before gradually building minutes with 22 against Celta and 2 against Alaves. Against Betis, he was then back in the starting lineup again and responded with another goal, his second in LaLiga.

For now, Hector Fort remains focused on helping Elche finish the season with their LaLiga status intact before returning to Barcelona in the summer. His future will then be assessed by Hansi Flick during preseason, where he will look to fight for a place in the first team, depending on how the squad situation develops.
