The 2026-27 season comes with a new scheme: Instead of three nine-day international breaks in fall, there will now be one 16-day break and one nine-day break. The two windows in September and October have been combined into one long break, which begins now. The Bundesliga will therefore take a break not just for one, but for two weekends.

Some of Dortmund’s national team players will face off directly against each other with their respective national teams during this time: As early as Thursday, the German team will take on the Netherlands, meaning there will be a showdown between three Dortmund players in the DFB squad and their colleague Joey Veerman, who is delighted to be returning to the Dutch national team after more than two year. Just three days later, Germany will face Greece where 18-year-old Konstantinos Karetsas is part of the squad.

Mathis Albert is also set to make his debut for the U.S. senior national team. The 17-year-old has already played for the U.S. Soccer Federation’s youth teams, but theoretically would have been eligible to play for Germany or France as well.
