For several days now, uncertainty has been mounting around the organization of the 2026 Women's Africa Cup of Nations, scheduled from March 17 to April 3 in Morocco. A statement from South Africa reignited speculation about a possible change of host country, before being swiftly downplayed by local authorities. Until now, CAF had remained silent, but has finally been prompted to clarify its position.

Motsepe keeps the suspense alive, but Morocco stays in pole position

Speaking at a press conference in Dar es Salaam, Patrice Motsepe did not announce a final decision, while confirming that Morocco officially remains the host nation at this stage. According to CAF, the tight schedule makes any alternative highly complicated.

"There are discussions and a lot of competition. Morocco came forward to help us. There were many countries that wanted to host this event and, since we didn't have enough time, our margin was really limited. As of now, there is still a commitment with Morocco because the other interested countries wanted to change the dates. And we don't want to change them because there are also the qualifiers for the Women's World Cup."
