At the conclusion of the second qualifying round, 12 African nations have secured their tickets to the 2026 Women's Africa Cup of Nations. The surprises certainly matched the expectations!

Egypt, Ivory Coast, Cameroon, and Mali—along with several other major contenders—will not feature in the 16th edition of the Women's Africa Cup of Nations.

Cape Verde delivered a real shock by eliminating Mali on their own turf. After losing 0-1 at home, the Cape Verdean players put in a sensational performance in Bamako, winning 4-2. This historic victory sends them to the tournament for the first time ever.

Another upset came courtesy of Malawi. The Malawian women also made history, clinching their first-ever qualification at the expense of Angola (0-0 in the first leg, 2-0 in the second).
