2026 World Cup: Gianni Infantino responds to boycott calls
FIFA President Gianni Infantino spoke out this Monday, addressing the boycott calls made by several football legends regarding the 2026 World Cup in the United States.
For several weeks now, the idea of boycotting the 2026 World Cup, which will be primarily hosted in the United States, has been gaining traction in many European countries. Donald Trump and both his foreign and domestic policies are cited as major reasons for this movement.
Speaking on Monday, FIFA President—and a close friend of the American president—Gianni Infantino called for unity.
"I am against bans, just as I am against boycotts. I don't think they achieve anything. They only foster more hatred. Has anyone asked the United Kingdom to stop trading with the United States? I haven't heard anything like that. So why football? In our divided and aggressive world, we need opportunities where people can come together and unite around their passion," FIFA President Infantino told Sky News.
