As part of matchday 9 in the 2026 World Cup qualifiers, scheduled from June 11 to July 19, Algeria will take on Somalia in a decisive clash for qualification. A win against the Leopards of Africa would allow Vladimir Petkovic’s men to officially secure their ticket to the World Cup set to take place in the United States, Canada, and Mexico.

Historically, the two nations have met only once, during the first leg of these very qualifiers on November 16, 2023. On that day, the Fennecs dominated their opponents with a convincing 3-1 victory, thanks to goals from Baghdad Bounedjah and Islam Slimani, as well as a Somali own goal. Since then, there have been no other official or friendly meetings between the two teams.

Algeria, firmly atop their group with 19 points, are ahead of both Uganda and Mozambique (15 points each). The Greens will approach this encounter with confidence and ambition, determined to wrap up their qualifying campaign on a high note.
