The hard work Salcido put in during his time with Tapatío paid off on July 22, 2001, when Óscar Ruggeri handed him his First Division debut on Matchday 1 of the Invierno Tournament against La Piedad. In the 69th minute, Carlos came on as a substitute for Omar Bravo, playing his first minutes in Mexico's top flight at the iconic Estadio Jalisco.

That debut was only the first step in a story built on resilience, hard work and determination. After that match, he returned to Tapatío for two more years, never losing sight of his goal of earning another opportunity with the First Team. In 2003, 'Yayo' de la Torre gave him that chance, and this time he had only one objective: never let go of his place in the First Division. He never did.

The career of a club legend

That determination fueled an extraordinary career. His performances with Guadalajara earned him a move to European football, where he spent eight years competing in the Eredivisie, the Premier League and the UEFA Champions League, establishing himself as one of the most successful Mexican footballers of his generation.

His return to the Rebaño Sagrado allowed him to continue writing memorable chapters in the club's history. As captain, he played a pivotal role in the historic Clausura 2017 domestic double, and one year later proudly lifted the 2018 Concacaf Champions League trophy at Estadio AKRON, adding another international title to Guadalajara's trophy cabinet.
