Arsenal’s 2-0 win over Everton was vital for the Gunners’ Premier League title chances, but it wasn’t necessarily the team’s best performance of the season. Despite playing some good football at times, the team largely failed to capitalise on their possession for the first 88 minutes.

All the same, there were some excellent individual displays in there, and three Arsenal players have made it into the BBC’s and Sky Sports’ Teams of the Week.

Clinton Morrison picked David Raya and Max Dowman for Sky Sports’ team, along with former Gunner Konstantinos Mavropanos for his excellent display against Arsenal’s title rivals Manchester City.

It’s certainly not hard to see why Dowman made the cut, after coming off the bench and playing the ball in for Arsenal’s opening goal, before scoring the second to settle the result.

As for Raya, the Arsenal goalkeeper made some great saves, including one point-blank stop with his feet to deny Beto. His clean sheet allowed the team to continue pushing for a winner until the very end.

Troy Deeney also selected Dowman for his BBC team, as well as centre-back William Saliba. Like Morrison, Deeney picked Mavropanos as well, but he selected another ex-Arsenal man in Aaron Ramsdale over Raya.

Deeney called Saliba a “Rolls Royce” and “a calming influence”, adding: “He is always in the right position and taking care of business.

On Dowman, Deeney said: “I don’t want to overhype him and put too much pressure on him, but he may have won Arsenal the league. He was excellent, very assertive, and played forward with freedom. Pickford should do better with the cross into the box but it was a great ball into a great area.

“Then he takes it past two players on the counter-attack and is running to goal, closing in on his first Premier League goal, first goal for Arsenal and at the Emirates too, and he was as composed as they come.”
