The Sky Blues have bounced back from the disappointment of defeat in the Championship play-off semi-finals to start their 2025/26 campaign in fine form.

Lampard has coached his side to blockbuster wins over Derby County (5-3) and QPR (7-1) during their opening four second-tier games, and his impressive management at the CBS Arena has reportedly been noticed.

According to Football Insider, the Chelsea icon has been identified by the Hammers to replace Potter as the East London side’s manager if their performances don’t pick up after the international break.

Having come through the academy at West Ham, Lampard may feel tempted into making an emotional return if given the opportunity, which means that Coventry City need to start sounding out potential successors.

As a result, Football League World have highlighted three managers who the Sky Blues might opt to appoint if their current boss does move on.

Danny Rohl

It seemed almost inevitable that Danny Rohl would secure an exciting job following his Sheffield Wednesday exit and was heavily linked with a move to the Bundesliga during the summer window.

However, he currently remains out of work and would therefore be an exciting option for Coventry if Lampard does depart.

The German transformed Wednesday under difficult circumstances, saving them from relegation before establishing the Steel City side in the Championship’s midfield.

It could be imagined that in a much healthier environment, with a more competitive squad, Rohl may enjoy a similar impact at the CBS Arena. He has proven to be excellent at inspiring a squad of players and getting every inch of performance out of them, which is crucial in the fight for promotion.

His young, exciting dynamic would grasp supporters and soften the blow of Lampard’s exit.

Chris Wilder

On paper, Sheffield United enjoyed an excellent 2024/25 Championship campaign, recording 92 points and just missing out on automatic promotion.

Chris Wilder’s side were neck and neck with Leeds United and Burnley throughout the year, but just faltered at the last to finish third.

To the surprise of many, the Blades decided that dismissing Wilder was the best port of call following their play-off final defeat, which means that the 55-year-old is now out of work.

It’s clear to see why Coventry City would be interested in acquiring the former Sheffield United boss if Lampard did leave.

He has experience of achieving promotion to the top-flight, which is exactly what the Sky Blues are looking to achieve.

His presence would also unite a group that may be disappointed following Lampard’s exit and remind them of the ultimate task at hand.

Determination to prove the Blades wrong will be at the forefront of Wilder’s mind, and he would relish the opportunity to take control of a competitive Coventry side and battle towards the top of the table once more.

Steve Cooper

Another manager with proven experience of achieving promotion out of the Championship, Steve Cooper would be an excellent choice for Coventry in the scenario that Lampard leaves.

During spells with both Swansea City and Nottingham Forest, the 45-year-old showed that he knows how to mould a competitive second-tier outfit and get them firing.

Therefore, if he takes over a side that are already performing well, Cooper and Coventry could be a real force to be reckoned with in the hunt for promotion.

Like Wilder, Cooper has operated out of the Premier League in recent times and would be classed as a top-flight coach, so it may be seen as a real coup if the Sky Blues can convince him to spearhead their project.
