West Ham are set to be very busy in the transfer market ahead of their Championship opener at Burnley on 16th August.

West Ham are focused on reshaping Nuno Espírito Santo’s squad as they look to give the manager a group that can win promotion back to the Premier League at the first attempt.

Given the resources the Hammers boast, relegation from the top flight was an embarrassing moment for the club, although fans will say it had been years in the making due to bad decisions from the top.

Pleasingly for the supporters, the hierarchy has been restructured, and all attention is now on winning promotion.

Of course, relegation was always going to impact West Ham financially, but the £85m sale of Mateus Fernandes to Tottenham will be a massive help, and it should ensure they can kickstart their summer business in terms of incomings.

Nevertheless, further departures are also necessary, to free up more funds, as well as space in the squad.

With that in mind, we look at THREE other players who could leave West Ham ahead of their Championship opener at Burnley on August 16…

Alphonse Areola

Mads Hermansen has established himself as the number one under Nuno, and it seems unlikely that Areola will stick around to be a backup in the Championship.

Furthermore, it won’t make sense for the club to keep someone like Areola to sit on the bench, as the ex-France international is likely to be commanding a big salary, so an exit is going to suit all parties.

At 33, Areola is at a stage in his career where he will want to be playing week in, week out, and he will know that it’s not going to happen at West Ham.

In Hermansen, Nuno has a keeper who has proven himself at this level, and the age of the Danish international means he is rightly viewed as the long-term option for the Londoners.

Areola has given a lot to West Ham over the years, but it now feels like the right time for him to move on as he enters the final year of his contract, so a move should be relatively straightforward.

Aaron Wan-Bissaka

It’s a similar story with Wan-Bissaka in the sense that West Ham have Kyle Walker-Peters at the club, and it will be difficult for the club to have two quality Championship right-backs for numerous reasons, including the financial aspect.

You could make an argument that the Irons could keep Wan-Bissaka and sell Walker-Peters, but it seems more realistic that the DR Congo international will secure a move, as he is likely to have more top flight interest, and he may fetch a bigger fee.

Plus, Wan-Bissaka may feel he belongs in the Premier League when you look at the career he has had, and he may not want to stay in the second tier.

Therefore, a swift departure could suit all parties, and whilst Nuno may want to find a backup to Walker-Peters, the reality is it won’t require a big chunk of the budget.

Crysencio Summerville

When West Ham’s relegation was confirmed, there were a few players who many were convinced would leave - and Summerville falls into that category.

Even though he only scored five goals last season, the Dutchman was impressive, with his pace and dribbling ability a major threat for the Hammers.

A promising World Cup with the Netherlands has only raised Summerville’s profile further, and he is attracting interest from some top clubs.

Clearly, it will be very difficult for West Ham to keep the attacker, but he will probably fetch the biggest fee of any player left at the club.

So, it won’t be ideal to lose Summerville, but that cash could help Nuno’s rebuild, and it may even prevent the club from selling skipper Jarrod Bowen, which would be a massive boost.
