Five names Burnley have to consider to replace Scott Parker
Burnley are back in the Championship after coming 19th in the Premier League table under Scott Parker.
The 45-year-old oversaw their promotion to the top flight last year, with the team earning 100 points en route to a top two finish.
However, he was dismissed with just a handful of games remaining in the campaign, with their place inside the bottom three confirmed with a 1-0 loss to Manchester City in April.
Mike Jackson oversaw the club’s final few fixtures, with no decision yet made on a permanent replacement for Parker.
Here we look at five ideal head coach appointments Burnley could make ahead of their return to the Championship…

Burnley have the opportunity to go in a few directions with their next managerial appointment, but they also should be able to attract some big names.
Russell Martin is one option that could bring some continuity in terms of a style suited to the first team squad.
The 40-year-old has a proven track record in the Championship, guiding Southampton to promotion in 2024 through the play-offs.
His possession-based style also isn’t a million miles from what Parker had the team doing in the second tier when they got promoted, so he could be a solid fit to keep things moving along nicely without the need for a massive overhaul.

Thomas Frank is more of a halfway house option between continuity and change, as the Dane has proven himself as a flexible coach during his previous time at Brentford.
The former Spurs coach could be a smart option, if he is willing to take the step back down to the Championship.
His Brentford side played attacking football when they gained promotion in 2021, and he was then able to shift to a more pragmatic style in the Premier League that ensured their survival.
That adaptability could be key to the Clarets surviving in the top flight long-term, and ending their rut of being a yo-yo club.

Sean Dyche knows Burnley through and through, and has been there and done that in terms of earning promotion and solidifying the Lancashire outfit in the top flight long-term.
It remains unclear whether he’d be willing to return to Turf Moor, having spent almost a decade at the club previously.
But a move back to the team could be a beneficial move for both parties, as the 54-year-old’s reputation has taken a hit after stints at Everton and Nottingham Forest didn’t quite go as well as he’d have hoped.

John Mousinho is one of the most promising young coaches in the Championship, and he has done well with a limited budget at Portsmouth.
He’s ensured Pompey’s safety in the second tier for two years in a row, but Burnley could take advantage of some of his frustrations by offering him the kind of budget that could allow him to show everyone just what he can achieve.
The 40-year-old has earned a lot of praise for his work at Fratton Park, and he could be ready to now take the step up to a team with the ambition to fight for promotion to the Premier League.

A left-field appointment that Burnley could attempt to make is for René Maric, who is currently a part of Vincent Kompany’s backroom staff at Bayern Munich.
The German has earned a reputation as a crucial part of the coaching setup of the Bundesliga giants, having worked his way up from the academy system.
He has also gained experience under Marco Rose at Borussia Monchengladbach and Borussia Dortmund, while also spending time in English football with Leeds United.
Burnley could look to offer the 33-year-old his first step into management, and the prior success of Danny Rohl could encourage him to make that step.
It would of course be quite risky, but given Kompany’s history at Turf Moor perhaps an endorsement from the Belgian could go a long way to ensuring he’s the right fit.
