There are five players in the Southampton squad who are currently scheduled to leave the club in the summer of 2027.

After a hectic summer that was dominated by the fallout from Spygate, Southampton had a productive window as they look to build a squad that can win promotion.

The hierarchy made the decision to stick with Tonda Eckert, and whilst Shea Charles and Taylor Harwood-Bellis were high-profile departures, they will feel the squad is in a strong place to finish in the play-offs as a minimum this season.

That has to be the aim for Saints, as a third year outside the Premier League will have a big impact on the club financially, so there is a lot of pressure on the club to get it right over the coming months.

But, when you look at the quality within the group, there will be optimism about how the campaign can play out, as there is depth and talent in all areas.

As well as that, the way they’ve built the squad has been impressive, and most of the key assets at St. Mary’s Stadium are tied down on lengthy deals.

However, as it stands, there are FIVE players who are set to leave Southampton in the summer of 2027…

The versatile defender joined Saints on loan from Nottingham Forest towards the end of the window, and he has signed for the rest of the season.

It looks like a smart bit of business by Saints, as Abbott has generally done well for Forest when he was called upon, and he has the physical attributes to cope with the demands of the Championship.

A permanent deal can’t be ruled out, and it’s something Southampton may pursue if Abbott does well on the south coast, but, at the moment, the 20-year-old will be back at the City Ground next season.

Another loanee, Mubama joined Southampton from Man City, and he has already shown why he is highly-rated by the Premier League side.

The 21-year-old has already found the net for his new club, as he grabbed a crucial goal against Stoke, so fans will have liked what they’ve seen at this early stage.

Again, a permanent move is something that could be discussed next year, but Mubama is scheduled to return to City in the summer of 2027, but his only focus will be helping Saints to promotion.

This is a surprising one, as Manning has been a key player for Southampton under Eckert, but the four-year contract he signed in 2023 is set to expire in less than 12 months.

The Ireland international has made it clear that he wants to extend his deal with the club, so it should be a relatively straightforward thing to sort out if Southampton want to keep him.

At 30, key figures may have reservations about a long contract, whilst it could also depend on whether they win promotion. But, Manning is an important part of the team, so it wouldn’t be a shock if fresh terms were finalised to avoid him leaving on a free.

It felt like somewhat of a surprise when Eckert turned to young under-21's midfielder Cameron Bragg to start his first Championship game last November, but he hasn't looked back.

Bragg is now an important part of the Southampton squad, and he is a player that Eckert clearly rates highly considering how often he uses the 21-year-old.

So, it will be a concern that his deal is expiring in 2027, although they won’t be panicking as it seems clear that Bragg is enjoying life in the first-team, and, as outlined above, the head coach is a fan.

With the youngster having come through the ranks as a kid, it’s a great story, and all parties will hope that his Southampton story doesn’t end next summer.

You would imagine that Saints are trying to secure Manning and Bragg on new deals, but they may not have the same success with Samuel Edozie.

Even though the winger is regularly involved in matchday squads, he is chiefly used as a substitute, and Edozie made it clear how he feels about the situation after handing in a transfer request on deadline day.

As we know, a move didn’t materialise, but it shows the 23-year-old is unhappy at his lack of game time, so this could be his last season at St Mary’s Stadium - his £10 million move from Man City in 2022 just hasn't worked out.
