Andoni Iraola and Richard Hughes have a bit of a rebuild on their hands at Liverpool this summer.
Indeed, they've already managed to start it by bringing Victor Munoz in but, since so many players have already left, there's a lot more work that needs to be done.
The fact that Liverpool finished fifth last season is a travesty, especially after they spent over £450 million on new players.
Some of their signings such as Hugo Ekitike managed to meet expectations but, the vast majority failed to even get out of first gear.
This lack of form has led to almost every area of the Reds' team needing new players which means even more money needs to be spent.
Of course, Iraola being in charge instead of Arne Slot will hopefully help matters but, if they continue moving their players on without bringing more in, they could get into some deep trouble and, since so many teams want to prise the Reds' players away, nothing is guaranteed.
Virgil van Dijk has been one of Liverpool's best players over the last few seasons.
The Dutchman has been named in numerous Premier League team of the seasons and has even been chosen as one of the world's best centre-backs on multiple occasions.
At the time, Liverpool spending £70 million on him seemed like a massive overspend but, looking back, its the best money that they could have spent.
However, now that he's 35 years old, he's getting to the end of his career and, even though he's still one of the Reds' best centre-backs, questions about his future have started to arise.
And, now, a fresh report from La Gazzetta dello Sport has detailed that AC Milan would be willing to offer the Dutchman €7 million (£5.9 million) per year to join them and, Van Dijk is said to be open to considering a switch.
"Before delving into the clubs, let's start with the player. The question everyone is asking is simple: would Van Dijk accept a potential move to Milan?
"The answer, offhand, is complex. But there's a starting point: the Dutchman, for a team with the history and tradition of Milan, would leave the door open to sit down and discuss it.
"Italy has always fascinated him, both on and off the pitch, given that he already has a home in Sardinia.
"There's a general availability, but then, of course, concrete matters like salary would need to be discussed. Van Dijk currently earns around €13 million net per year at Liverpool.
"Milan can't go that high, but Cardinale could consider a lower offer (€7 million?) over multiple years, given that the Dutchman's contract with the Reds expires on June 30th."
At the moment, Liverpool have four centre-backs among their ranks who could start for them.
On the face of things, this may seem like enough cover for them but, since Joe Gomez is made of glass and Jeremy Jacquet and Giovanni Leoni have never played in the Premier League, it would be a massive risk for Liverpool to not sign anyone else.
Many defenders have already been linked with an Anfield switch this summer such as Josh Acheampong, Jacobo Ramon and Nico Schlotterbeck.
However, at the moment, nothing concrete is in place for any of the aforementioned targets and, with the way Liverpool's window looks like it's going, a centre-back might not be one of their top priorities.
But, if they did move Van Dijk on, it would have to be turned into their main issue to solve.
Van Dijk's exit would leave them with just three centre-backs which means at least one more would need to come in but, to cover injuries and other things like that, it would be far better if another two were added to Iraola's ranks.
There's obviously no knowing how things will pan out over the next couple of months but, if Liverpool don't figure out what they want to do in the market soon, they could be left even further behind their title rivals.
