Norway’s national team received a triumphant homecoming in Oslo on Monday, with around 90,000 people lining the streets after their 2026 World Cup quarter-final exit to England, their best World Cup run.

“It is simply incredible to see all the support we are getting and how the whole country is behind us. So much joy, smiles and good humour. It is really fantastic,” said captain Martin Ödegaard, speaking to NRK.

Fresh from the United States, the squad were received by King Harald, then stepped out to greet supporters on the square outside the Royal Palace.

In front of the palace, the players led their now familiar Viking Row celebration, mimicking longship oarsmen, to a roaring reception.

The team also paraded through the city by bus, cheered along the route by thousands.

The broadcaster said Erling Haaland did not join the public festivities because he had a flight to catch, although he attended the royal reception. Norway were knocked out 2-1 after extra time by England.
