Former Liverpool defender Jamie Carragher has been speaking out on the Chelsea links with Xabi Alonso this week.

Things are really heating up now with rumours suggesting that Alonso could actually end up at Chelsea this summer. Nothing is done yet though, and there seems a little way to go for it to get completed, but there is a chance that we see Alonso in the hot seat at Stamford Bridge this summer going into the new season and hopefully beyond.

It would be a massive appointment for Chelsea if they could get this done, something that Carragher is forced to admit. The Sky Sports pundit was a team mate of Alonso’s at Liverpool, so they will know each other well, which makes these comments even more interesting.

In quotes picked up by The Chelsea Chronicle, Carragher said last night:

“I think that would be a big coup for Chelsea. I am sure he would love to manage Liverpool one day, but Chelsea is one of the biggest clubs in European Football at the moment.”
