Chelsea announced the appointment of Alonso on Sunday, and the Spaniard has agreed a four year contract at Stamford Bridge.
Alonso will officially begin work on July 1st, but is no doubt planning for a critical summer which Chelsea can’t afford to get wrong in terms of recruitment.
Alonso’s appointment is seen as a real coup for Chelsea, and the players are understood to be excited by his arrival.
Jorrel Hato believes the club made the right decision, whilst Trevoh Chalobah has spoken of his excitement about working under Alonso.
Unlike Enzo Maresca and Liam Rosenior, Alonso has been given the title of manager, which appears to indicate he’ll have more control.
The 44-year-old faces a huge job at Chelsea, and Poyet has shared his thoughts on the appointment and next season.
“I like this appointment a lot,” he said as quoted on X.com.
“Alonso knows the Premier League, the appointment is nice and early so he can get to know the players before they go on the break and most will be off to the World Cup.
“I am sure he has watched a lot of Chelsea to know the style of play he wants to adopt and what players will be very important for him to deliver this.
“With no major European competition for Chelsea, now Champions League is not possible, Alonso can really focus on the Premier League, so for him, it will be a bonus for sure.”

Chelsea are reportedly among the clubs interested in Bernardo Silva, with the 31-year-old leaving Manchester City at the end of the season.

Silva would give Chelsea the experience, leadership and winning mentality they are missing in the squad, but at this stage it’s hard to imagine a move materialising.
