PSG head coach Luis Enrique lost his temper in the aftermath of Les Parisiens‘ chastening 3-0 defeat against Chelsea in Sunday’s Club World Cup final. The Champions League 1 winners were one game away from a historic quintuple, but they fell at the final hurdle as Cole Palmer and João Pedro ran riot in New Jersey. “Chelsea started the match brightly with very high pressure”, the Spaniard said. “They put us in difficulty. We had chances to score, but we didn’t. Overall, they deserved their victory.”
Tensions then reached a boiling point after the final whistle as several PSG and Chelsea players came to blows. A visibly angry Luis Enrique pushed Chelsea striker João Pedro, who fell to the ground. The PSG head coach justifies his actions by saying he was trying to separate players and prevent tension from rising. “It was a completely avoidable situation for everyone. Different people were involved in this. We had to avoid problems. I wanted to prevent it from escalating.”
