A Coruña has withdrawn from its 2030 World Cup host bid, so Riazor will not stage matches in the tournament shared by Spain, Portugal and Morocco.
According to Superdeporte, the move clears the way for Valencia and Vigo. The RFEF president, Rafael Louzán, has repeatedly pushed for Nou Mestalla and Balaídos to be added, and his recent comments suggested Nou Mestalla could benefit if a host fell away.
Mayor Inés Rey and Deportivo president Juan Carlos Escotet will outline the decision on Monday in a public appearance. Their move followed a meeting last Monday that restarted dialogue and set the roadmap for withdrawal.
Time pressure, funding hurdles and mobility issues led the council to abandon hopes of hosting again after 1982. The decision lands two days before a planned FIFA visit to review a bid that had been among 11 Spanish preselected in December 2024. It becomes the second Spanish candidate to step aside after Málaga.
Valencia was left off the 11-venue list the RFEF sent to FIFA when the club and city hall failed to agree on minimum requirements. Even so, work continues on a potential Nou Mestalla host role, now with a clearer path after Riazor’s exit. Balaídos in Vigo is also in the frame.
