Stephen Mfuni left Manchester City during the January transfer window to spend the second half of this season out on loan at Watford. The hope was that Mfuni would gain valuable experience and show his prodigious talent both on the ball and as a defender in a cut-throat competition such as the Championship. In eight appearances for Watford, Mfuni had done exactly that. The young defender had shown he had all of the talent and mental attributes to thrive at Watford. He has also shown that he has the potential to one day become a first-team player at Manchester City. Today news has emerged that Stephen Mfuni’s season is now over due to injury. It is without a doubt a cruel blow for the young defender to suffer.

Stephen Mfuni has sustained an ankle injury which will end his season.

A new report from Adam Drury from the Watford Observer has emerged that states that Stephen Mfuni suffered an ankle injury during Watford’s most recent match against Stoke City last weekend. It has been reported by Drury that Mfuni’s injury is serious enough that he will now be ruled out for the remainder of this season. Furthermore, Drury reports that Mfuni will return to Manchester City soon to begin his rehab and recovery from the ankle injury he has sustained.

Despite the injury setback, Manchester City will be happy with what Mfuni showed at Watford.

It is a cruel blow for Stephen Mfuni to have his season ended by injury. Mfuni had seized his opportunity at Watford and had quickly established himself as a regular in their defence. The young defender had shown his talent and versatility by playing at centre-back and left-back for Watford. Although Mfuni only made eight appearances during his loan spell, he did more than enough to show that he is set for a long and successful career.

Manchester City will be happy with what Stephen Mfuni showed at Watford. He seized his chance to show he is ready to play at a higher level than Manchester City’s EDS side. Mfuni is ready to play consistently, and although his season is now over due to an ankle injury, he seems more than ready for a loan move to a Premier League club or a top-level Championship club next season.
