Following the current international break, Manchester City face a gruelling run of fixtures. Pep Guardiola’s side take Manchester United, Napoli and Arsenal. City will be hoping to have the majority of their squad available for the three crucial matches that lie ahead. A host of City players have been in action for their countries today. One of the players was Omar Marmoush. The Egyptian international sustained a knee injury while playing in Egypt’s World Cup qualifier against Burkina Faso. Manchester City will be sweating on the fitness of one of their key attacking weapons ahead of a testing run of matches.
Egypt drew nil-all with Burkina Faso earlier today. The result means Egypt must wait to secure their place at next year’s FIFA World Cup. From a Manchester City point of view, the biggest concern was the knee injury sustained by Omar Marmoush in the fourth minute of the match. The versatile attacker went down clutching his knee in the game’s opening stages. The incident where Marmoush was injured can be seen below.
Journalist Ismael Mahmoud has relayed a statement from the Egyptian FA that the knee injury sustained by Omar Marmoush isn’t believed to be serious. Furthermore, it has been revealed that Marmoush suffered a knee ligament injury. Lastly, Mahmoud reports that Marmoush is set to have scans on his knee when he arrives in Cairo on Wednesday.
Omar Marmoush appears to have avoided a serious injury based on Ismael Mahmoud’s report. That would be good news for Manchester City. Pep Guardiola’s side is already dealing with several injuries to attacking players. Rayan Cherki is sidelined for two months due to a thigh injury. Phil Foden is yet to return to full fitness. Savinho hasn’t played a minute this season due to injury. The hope is that Marmoush won’t be sidelined for a prolonged period of time. If he is Pep Guardiola’s side’s attacking options will be stretched.
An update on Omar Marmoush’s condition is expected when Pep Guardiola faces the media on Friday. A potential timeline on Marmoush’s recovery and availability for Manchester City’s upcoming tough run of fixtures could be provided when Guardiola talks to the media in pre-game press conference ahead of Sunday’s Manchester derby.
